Mexico has been severely jolted by Mother Earth once again. Only thirteen days have passed from the deadly temblor that struck down in Oaxaca and Chiapas; thirty-two years after a powerful earthquake had killed thousands of people in central Mexico. September 19th is once again a date to remember, and to many of us, every single face, smell, word or event happening during these difficult hours, will forever be registered in our minds. Trying to look at the positive side of tragedy, these types of events bring back my faith in humanity. The Mexican people see no boundaries when it comes to helping others in the midst of hardship. It's not easy to express in words how proud, honored and unbelievably humbled I feel to see Mexico recovering in unity from this catastrophe. You can see people organizing themselves in brigades to remove debris from fallen buildings, and dig out people trapped under the rubble — using nothing but their bare hands and their big and hopeful hearts. A year ago I came to realize that I had too many good ideas revolving inside my head and crowding my mind to let them go waste. I was getting a little overwhelmed because these ideas had nowhere to be landed. Just recently I read a post from Leonard AB, a Ph.D. student in Cognitive Systems Engineering, saying, "[D]o not keep the ideas inside your head. They will just occupy your brain and fighting each other and make you confused, and in the end, you will choose none of them. Write them down (...) It will be messy in the beginning, but that's the point. You need to get them outside your head and make them visible." Therefore, I did exactly that. Since I am naturally a very optimistic person, I turned a recent professional challenge into an opportunity that would, in fact, allow me to start seeking career advancement and pursue my dream job — because honestly, I have never worked at a company in which I've had a clear career path. Therefore, this is an exciting chapter in my professional life. Initially, this initiative was aimed to target young adults and basically portrait the true Latino spirit. I came up with this idea after seeking opportunities and contacting an executive director from We Are Mitú. I love Mitú's creativity and comedic approach to the Mexican culture; however, I don't think all Mexican households are like that. Mitú offers an accurate representation of  only  a certain portion of the Mexican families, but there are still a lot of variations. I reflected on this idea and I felt like I wanted to show a different side of Mexican society; the side that it's almost never shown or appreciated. ...

Back in August, I was invited to interview for a fantastic job opportunity at KXAN, a local TV station from Austin, Texas. Not only the Digital Marketing Producer position seemed like a great fit for me, but it actually excited me the most. The job responsibilities perfectly matched my creative skills, my passion to analyze demographic insights, and my ability to plan, develop, and implement marketing strategies. I was excited to be able to develop a strong and loyal community for their newscast and morning show's social platforms. It was late at night when I received an email inviting me to interview for a Marketing Communications Manager position at Indeed. Needless to say, I was too excited to ease myself down to get a good night's sleep. The next morning I responded to the email with an open schedule to set our appointment and immediately after, I got the meeting invite. I was so ready to knock 'em dead! You would think that by being the top job website in the world, Indeed's recruiters would do magic job interviews. Well, for me it was, in fact, a little bit more interesting than that.😊 The recruiter and I had agreed to connect at a certain time before noon, but for some reason, she called 10 minutes late. Remember this scene from Friends? What is it about those meetings that bring up the worst version of your professional self? 😓 I wish I had the answer to this one. Interviewing for jobs can be really stressful at times, and pretty draining. I consider them to be more demanding than an actual job. And I am sure this is true for both, hiring managers and candidates. Last week I was invited to interview for a fantastic job opportunity at a great local company. Not only this position seems like a great fit for me, but it actually excites me. It perfectly matches my skills and background and I was even considering to willingly take a pay cut for this position.
