What is it about "Despacito"?

People e-very-where are singing this song ... without even knowing the words! Last night I was at this wing bar where every Wednesday a guy turns on a really loud mic and starts playing some trivia with the diners. You have no other option but to get involved because the sound is so high, you can hardly carry on a conversation at your table. Anyhow, the trivia host played this song yesterday, and this is what he was singing: "Despacito, this is how we do it down in Puerto Rico, na na na something that rhymes with 'ito'..." and it was really funny 😂😂.

So, regardless of liking Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, I use to think this was just another song with lots of dollars behind it. So, I decided to actually listen to it, pay attention to the words, feel the rhythms (yes, in plural) and actually watch the video. And so, I did.

It's impossible not to fall in love immediately with the music, the colors, the latinos, the dancing, the street style, Luis Fonsi's smile, Daddy Yankee's beat and of course, Zuleyka Rivera's beauty. I came to the conclusion that is the perfect mix of all the latino elements in the song and on the video what have made this song, THE song and video of the decade — I mean, not yet, but almost!

For real, the Latino feel on Despacito exta con madre! Just watch:

We know the Caribbean beaches are the most beautiful ones on the planet. This video was filmed on La Perla neighborhood of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Then comes Luis Fonsi. Did I mention Luis Fonsi's smile?

Followed up by devotion.

...and more Zuleyka.

The song goes smooth until the ritmo de cumbia begins (turn it up!). Feel the 'chucu-chu':

And that's when sexy starts raising the temperature. The lyrics are pretty hot 😓💥💓. Basically this guy is asking his chica tu have sex with him and he explains "despacito" how he wants to do it:

Despacito (slowly), I want to breathe in your body slowly. Let me whisper things to your ear, so you can remember when you are not with me.
Despacito (slowly), I want to slowly get you naked by kissing you. Sign on the walls of your labyrinth
(wha?!), until I make a manuscript all over your body 😨.

And this happens:

And continues to ask the chica to show his mouth her favorite places (turn it up!):

And before hip-hopping — meaning, Daddy Yankee's part in the song — he adds:
Let me exceed your danger zones, until I bring you up to screams and you forget your last name... WAIT! Was she married?

Let's take a break here and enjoy the "pasito a pasito, suave, suavecito" ðŸ˜…💦...

And finally they meet! Finally...

Luis Fonsi is so irresistible, Zuleyka ends up dancing with him — nothing like despacito, tho.

And 'despacito' starts happening...

But he wants to take it further...

And hopefully we'll get Despacito, Part II next summer... maybe, ¿Un Rapidín? 😂😂

Mean while, the party stays (turn it up!):

See? "Despacito" is THE song for all these reasons, and we pay homage to those artists and song writers who create music and lyrics that show the latino warmth and culture in all its expressions!

¡Exta Con Madre el sabor latino!
