Giving Your Best Regardless the Moment

Image
This summer has been a time of intense self-growth for me. I may not be able to define it as a pure indulgence, but still, it has been great in refining my personal, emotional, spiritual, and professional strengths. My biggest fear came to happen back on July 20th. I got 'that' call at 4:30 a.m.  My father had been feeling bad all night and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Yes, he had a heart attack. It took me a while to grasp the news, but deep inside I was feeling peaceful and faithful while driving to the hospital. Somehow I knew everything was going to be alright. Thankfully, my father was intervened on time, and his heart artery was taken care of very quickly. Although he was recovering, we knew things were taking a different route for everyone in the family from that day forward. Being healthy and stress-less became a serious priority. I had previously scheduled a phone interview for a Digital Media Strategist position at the Hogg Foundation for that same morning...

Internet Killed the Video Stars ♫

Last night, I was reading news through my Flipboard when I came across an interesting article on BuzzFeed titled, " MTV Isn't What It Used To Be ," written by Scaachi Koul an extraordinary BuzzFeed News Reporter. It's a profound analysis of how MTV has been losing its audience, shifting its programming, canceling shows, and facing an identity crisis to the point of no return. The author starts by citing some quotes from Billboard , New York Times and New York Post , judging MTV's efforts to keep afloat.   It seems like the iconic music channel has lost its signature authenticity and originality and no longer sets a cultural trend. No blame! The millennial wave has made this impact on almost every industry. "MTV’s president, Chris McCarthy, seems to be banking on previously successful unscripted content as he tries to reestablish the brand. Earlier this month, another Teen Mom offshoot premiered: Teen Mum, with the same premise but based in the UK. ...

De Mi Padre Para David Bisbal

Image
Meneaito... Risit...

The True Nostalgia of Immigrants

Image
As a Mexican Latina, when thinking about my hometown, nostalgia immediately awakes  out of melancholy . It's not that I actually miss the physical place per se, it's more about the moments of life created yonder.  Salma Hayek defined it perfectly well on a TV interview perforemed by Jorge Ramos for his news show, Al Punto. As she was sharing tones of the character of Beatriz, a Mexican immigrant living on the US on the movie "Beatriz at Dinner," Hayek said,  " Todos tenemos esa sensación de nostalgia como de que había un lugar que era mejor antes en algún momento de tu vida, es importante que digas 'hogar'. Si no eres inmigrante y tu papás siguen juntos y viven en la misma casa cuando eran niños, no es el mismo hogar porque este lugar que buscamos no es físico, es un lugar de pureza e inocencia en donde tu tenías esa pureza." What she means is, we all have a loving memory of a place we grew up in but this place no longer exists — even if it's s...

What is it about "Despacito"?

Image
People e-very-where are singing this song ... without even knowing the words! Last night I was at this wing bar where every Wednesday a guy turns on a really loud mic and starts playing some trivia with the diners. You have no other option but to get involved because the sound is so high, you can hardly carry on a conversation at your table. Anyhow, the trivia host played this song yesterday, and this is what he was singing: "Despacito, this is how we do it down in Puerto Rico, na na na something that rhymes with 'ito'..." and it was really funny 😂😂. So, regardless of liking Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, I use to think this was just another song with lots of dollars behind it. So, I decided to actually listen to it, pay attention to the words, feel the rhythms (yes, in plural) and actually watch the video. And so, I did.  It's impossible not to fall in love immediately with the music, the colors, the latinos, the dancing, the street style, Luis Fonsi'...

When Magic People Happens

Image
This past Sunday, I was determined to stay in bed for the most part of the day — at least I planned on drinking coffee and napping until noon. This is because June is usually the craziest month in my calendar, but this year we had an event going on every single weekend. I enjoyed every single second of all of this bash, however, after a month-lasting party, some rest is definitely justified. On a particular note, the author of this blog was born in Monterrey, Mexico. I would say I am so lucky to be a total Regia. Similar to this 😂😂: And moreover, I was very lucky to be born in a family where traveling and getting to know Mexico was essential to our culture. Therefore, I can state that every corner in Mexico has a unique beauty to offer, and I personally developed a sacred, devoted, true love for my country of origin. The reason I share my upbringing is because beyond loving the Mexican culture, traditions, people and food, I also support the Rayados de Monterrey soccer team...
