Giving Your Best Regardless the Moment

This summer has been a time of intense self-growth for me. I may not be able to define it as a pure indulgence, but still, it has been great in refining my personal, emotional, spiritual, and professional strengths. My biggest fear came to happen back on July 20th. I got 'that' call at 4:30 a.m.  My father had been feeling bad all night and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Yes, he had a heart attack.

It took me a while to grasp the news, but deep inside I was feeling peaceful and faithful while driving to the hospital. Somehow I knew everything was going to be alright. Thankfully, my father was intervened on time, and his heart artery was taken care of very quickly. Although he was recovering, we knew things were taking a different route for everyone in the family from that day forward. Being healthy and stress-less became a serious priority.

I had previously scheduled a phone interview for a Digital Media Strategist position at the Hogg Foundation for that same morning. Therefore, I had to prepare myself and set my mindset at ease to be able to take the call and do my best while still being at the hospital taking care of my father.

The interview went great. The chemistry between the manager and I was great; the conversation flowed smoothly, and I managed my self with great confidence since this position involved a lot of my background and previous experience. I was excited to share my knowledge and vision for this role. I focused on sharing examples of my most recent accomplishments during my tenure at a non-profit organization, and compare them to the contributions I would bring to the Hogg Foundation through this opportunity. I think I did great and he told me he wanted to proceed with an in-person interview a couple of weeks later.

I was invited to visit the Hogg Foundation premises in the following weeks. I was asked to bring three writing samples from a social media campaign, a blog post, or any other digital media communication. I was required to be prepared to discuss the content development and distribution process for each example, as well as any success metrics or goals achieved. Lastly, I was also requested to discuss one aspect of the Hogg Foundation's social platforms and give an idea of how I would improve it.

During my job hunting, I have been constantly sharing one of the biggest achievements in my most recent experience: My most recent Facebook campaign led to an increase of over 450% in daily page likes, reaching more than seven million followers in two languages within a year. Therefore, I started my presentation by explaining how I had managed to achieve this goal by turning one general ad into six different ads based upon audience segmentation:
Here are the results achieved by May 2017:

Lastly, I decided to share not only one but a couple more suggestions to improve the opportunities of engagement through the Hogg Foundation's Facebook page:
Overall, I had a good feeling about my performance during the interview. I was able to respond to each and every one of the questions based on examples from previous work and accomplishments. Essentially, I felt really comfortable speaking with the interviewing panel and learning about the Digital Media Strategist position and the Hogg Foundation.

Fun Fact
I chose to wear a black suit set for the interview — which I believe ended up being too serious for the role. The three women on the interviewing panel were perfectly dressed for a regular office day in warm Texas. I truly believe my outfit betrayed me to make the best impression. 😓 So, the rest is history.
