A Touch of Austin, Texas

Austin is a lot more than just a city kept weird — but it surely depends on what angle you are contemplating it from. Austin is becoming one of the most modern cities in the nation. Ranked this year as the best place to live in the country.

When you visit Austin, TX you're obviously expected to visit 6th street, the University of Texas, the Texas Capitol, the Oasis, and of course, IKEA. But aside from all the "must see" places, and living la vida loca in the hundreds of bars and restaurants located in downtown, you don't want to miss the experience of this city's extreme weather. Prepare to feel delighted by it.

"If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait five minutes." Back in 2011, the people in Austin witnessed a peculiar blend of extreme temperatures. One day we had the most beautiful snowy morning, embellished later by an unbelievably clear, warm and sunny afternoon. Similar to the image below. Here is an imposing storm that caused no rain that day. So you may never know what to expect in this town. You better be predisposed.

Of course, the varied climate in the region is reason enough for the city to embody rainbows really often. You'll be really lucky if you're able to capture the end of it, though.

You may want to try to find a really good spot to watch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets especially during the fall season. You can either hike the hills or go to the lake to watch the scenery. The Austin skies offer the most picturesque and breathtaking views. Therefore, if you are a photographer, you'll be enchanted with this place.

Another of the attractions in the city of Austin are the outdoor spaces. The lifestyle here is very similar to the one in Central Park in Manhattan, New York City.

Austinites practice many outdoor and water activities, such as trail running and hiking, bike, paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking, among others. The Austin Parks and Recreation website offers you information of all the parks in the city, listed alphabetically for your convenience.

Of course, after all the sightseeing, the hiking and and the sweating, please be rewarded with an authentic touch of Mexico. Any Mexican restaurant in the region will offer you the most delicious dishes inspired by real Mexican cuisine. If I may suggest, you'll love Taco Flats, La Fonda San Miguel, Polvos and Casa Chapala.

And, if you want to experience a little bit of the weirdness, you can visit Kick Butt Coffee, "Austin's Premiere Home-brewed Coffee House and Venue, with a full liquor bar and nightly events." This place is owned by Master Thomas Gohring, skillful in martial arts. Just take a look to this video in their Facebook page and you're going to want to make sure this site is on your things-to-do next time you are in town.
